starEnhancement of Aquatic Biology Instruction

To allow a high school teacher to engage in professional development activities to enhance the teaching of an Aquatic Biology course. Activities will include taking a class, exploring resources available at the New England Aquarium and Woods Hole, and purchasing books, videos, and posters for classroom use. (Science/biology staff)

Galapagos Expedition and Curriculum Development

To fund a portion of the expedition fees for one high school science teacher who will be participating in an educators’ tour of the Galapagos Islands, with a goal of enhancing the curriculum and teaching of biology units on ecology and evolution. (N. Digenis)

METCO Activity Box Project

To purchase reading materials, games, and storage boxes for use by Boston students during their bus ride to and from Sudbury schools, creating a safer and more constructive environment on the bus. (K. Donald)

Classroom Display of Multicultural and Contemporary Works of Art

To purchase posters and prints for display on walls in the middle school art room, introducing students to multicultural, contemporary, and historically significant works of art and to elements and principles of design. The enhanced display will promote diversity and provide new sources of artistic inspiration for students. (S. Greenaway)

Curriculum Resource for Cuisenaire Rodsstar

To create written documentation of the Cuisenaire rod lessons as a resource for teachers in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Until now, learning experiences and traditions have been passed orally from one teacher to another. The written guide will be used at teacher workshops and to supplement current mentorship practices. Enriching the First Grade Map Unit

To research and purchase picture books and games for map study in the 1st grade at one elementary school, enhancing student understanding of basic map skills. Daily Math Message

To create materials and lessons that capitalize on daily math routines, improving students’ mathematical thinking and knowledge at one elementary school. The materials and lessons will enhance performance in time, money, and measurement skills of 4th and 5th graders. (J. Bleiler, L. Chase, S. Guernsey)

Wilson Literacy Kindergarten Fundations™ Program

To purchase The Fundations™ Teacher Kit for the kindergarten level at one elementary school. Wilson Fundations™ is a phonics and

starLearning Enlargement/Using a Grid

To purchase lightboxes, enabling 7th grade students to translate small pictures and drawings into proportionally correct larger paintings using art skills, math skills, and a grid system. Students also will learn about perspective in enlargement. (B. Clement)
